A Joint Report of September 2017 by Bruegel, Chatham House, China Center for International Economic Exchanges and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, suggests the following measures to strengthen EU-China ties –
- Conclude an investment agreement as soon as possible;
- Open negotiations on establishing an EU–China free trade agreement (FTA)
- Use China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a platform for further expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation
- Deepen EU–China cooperation on energy security and climate change
- Focus on the opportunities offered by new breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation (STI)
- Support further EU–China cooperation in the financial sector
- Contribute to strengthening mechanisms of good global governance
